Depending on intended use and purpose, one can make do of lower priced projectors. Although these cheap projectors may not come with as many features as those of the expensive types, they may very well work fine, and function on a satisfactory level.
One must know first on what occasions the projectors will be used, and how these are intended to be used. Then can one start assessing the basic features that will be needed to carry out the function one has in mind for the projectors. Dimensions in terms of weight and size have to be considered as well.
The drawback though of cheap projectors lies mainly on the availability and the limitation of its features. Unlike the high-end types, most of these projectors come with only the basic features. Advanced options are not included, thereby being classified on the lower priced products.
Image quality of cheap projectors is lower than those of high-end projectors. For a presentation having too much detail, would be a problem for such a projector.
Brightness is usually lower, and thus would require that one takes other necessary steps to offset this problem. Ambient light would have to be effectively controlled, so that room lights will be put to a minimum.
Another feature that will be compromised with having cheap projectors is their native resolution. Usually, cheap projectors will be limited to the 800 x 600 native ratio. This will be a limitation, as it should be remembered that the number of pixels affect the picture and image quality. It is always an advantage to have a higher number of pixels.
Cheap projectors may not come with a good built-in scaler. A projector’s scaler adjusts the input signals to fit the number of pixels in the projector’s chip. It can lower, or upscale a source signal. It can make a source adapt to its native pixel field.
Another problem that one might encounter with cheap projectors, is the feed signals it support. Although almost all projectors support the common video formats, high-resolution VGA signals are not. One must make sure that the projector will be appropriately compatible with the devices one intends to use these with.
Cheap projectors may not come with superior and powerful features & options, but by giving only due consideration to the basic features one may need, money can be saved by buying what is just right for one’s use.
